A reminder to all Councillors that the Nomination Deadline for the LAMA Awards is the Friday 27th August 2010
(August 19, 2010)We would like to thank all who have sent in their nominations already. To date we have nominations from across the country; recognising the best projects and initiatives that have taken place in Ireland.
To those that are still considering projects for nomination, we would like to remind you that all City, Borough and County Councillors can nominate projects in their locality. The nomination deadline is Friday 27th August 2010.

Which county will make it to the top of the Winners’ Leader Board?
(July 26, 2010)Today, 26th July 2010, the Local Authority Members Association is delighted to open the call for nominations for the LAMA Awards 2011. This annual and prestigious awards ceremony, now in its fifth year, recognises and rewards excellence in construction at local, county, and national level. This year, we have revamped and revised the categories, reflecting climate conditions and, to enhance the awards further, we are introducing a Council of the Year Award, Best Green Authority, Special Merit Award, Best Community based Initiative and Best Playground facility. This year, 24 unique categories will commend individuals, initiatives, and projects of benefit to the community.
The LAMA Awards 2011 short-list will be announced this November and winners will be revealed at a black-tie gala in Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry, Dublin on Saturday, 22nd January 2011.
The event promises to be a great success with key representatives from government, heads of local authorities, construction and the corporate business community in attendance. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to showcase excellence in your community!
Zurich LAMA Awards Celebrate Ireland's Excellence

This years Zurich LAMA Awards acknowledged the very best of Ireland's talent in local projects of Construction, Engineering and Infrastructure. Held in the Burlington Hotel last Saturday January 30th, the Zurich LAMA Awards, now in its 4th year, saw key representatives from government, heads of local authorities, construction and the corporate business community attend to show their support of the many finalists. Mr. Michael Finneran, T.D., Minister for Housing and Local Services was delighted with the attendance saying "tonight's nominated projects pay tribute to local authorities, individuals and private sector organisations whose work contributes to the quality of life of our local communities. I'm especially pleased to see that the achievements of both local government and the business community have been recognised. This reflects the reality on the ground where the public and private sectors work successfully together to yield real benefits to local communities."
Having revamped and revised this years categories to better reflect climate conditions, and further support it nominees, the Zurich LAMA Awards provided a positive opportunity to commend individuals, initiatives, and projects of benefit to the community. Conor Brennan, Director of Broker Distribution at Zurich said

Last year's extreme weather events posed serious challenges for both Local Authorities and the insurance industry alike and these awards provide an important opportunity for us to come together and acknowledge the well planned and executed projects which enhance all of our daily lives. The Dublin region was the biggest winner on the night, scooping six prestigious Zurich LAMA Awards including the Clondalkin Credit Union for Best Commercial Building, Fr. Collins Park for Best Environmentally Friendly Initiative and Best Public Park, RUA-RED Arts Centre for Best Public Building and Best Arts Building and Meadowbrook Sports and Leisure Centre for Best Publically Funded Sporting Facility.
However the Capital weren't the only big winners on the night and was closely followed by Cork and Galway who each won three Zurich LAMA Awards. County Cork was recognised for the Youghal Leisure Centre as Best Recreational Facility, the ARC On-Line Newsletter for Best Use of External Communications and Hillback Developments for Best Developers. Local projects acclaimed on the night for the Galway region included Cuil na Canalach for Best Private Housing Development, Arus Cois Fharraige for Best Private Nursing Home, and NUIG Swimming Pool and Leisure Centre for Best Not Publically Funded Sporting Facility.
Cllr. Hugh Mc Elvaney, Chairman of the LAMA Association said "We are delighted to highlight and recognise excellence in construction at local, county and national level. Congratulations to all the winners."
