 This category is for a new and innovative public playground facility that has been completed in the past 3 years. This playground may serve various age groups, and must provide a safe and secure environment for play.

This category is for an educational building that has been upgraded or completed in the past 3 years. This educational building may have unique elements, or an innovative and interesting layout conducive to learning. This building may also be situated in a community that will greatly benefit from either its construction or the amenities provided by it.

 o        Best Healthcare Building

 This category is for a newly developed healthcare building that has been upgraded or completed in the past 3 years. This healthcare building may have state-of-the-art amenities, or an innovative and interesting layout or concept that ensures it is conducive to providing health services. This building may be situated in a community that will greatly benefit from either its construction or the amenities provided by it.

  o        Best Public Building

 This category is for an innovative new public building which has been completed in the past 3 years. This building may offer the local community services and amenities that were not available previously, or could be state of the art in its design and layout. This building may have a cultural or historical significance to the local area, and may exhibit a high standard of environmental responsibility.

 o        Best Sporting Facility – Public or Private

This category is for a public or privately funded sporting facility that has been completed in the past 3 years. This facility may offer all members of the public opportunities or services that have not been available previously, or may incorporate new or larger sporting facilities. This facility may be innovative in its layout or design, and could now serve as a focal point for many community activities.

 This category is for a project that has restored a historical site, or has been historically/culturally significant, which has been completed in the past 3 years.

·         30% How the piece fits into the surrounding environment

 
 o        Best Tourist Attraction

 This category recognises a local tourist attraction that is well established or recently (re)developed.  This could be a newly developed centre, a historical site that has been redeveloped, a tourist centre, tour, or other attraction.

 o        Best Community-Based Initiative

 This category recognises community based initiatives which were put in place to develop and deliver services within communities to meet local needs.  These may range from justice to child care initiatives, to cultural or environmental projects. They must have impacted upon the community or improved lives of those in the surrounding area.

o        Best Local Business – Under 50 Employees

This category aims to find the best local Irish small business which employs 50 or less people with an emphasis on employee satisfaction, job creation, local economic growth and environmental responsibility.  It should highlight what procedures are in place to benefit employees as well as their clients and customers, and should support the local community and it’s economic development.

 o        Best Eco-Friendly Building

 This category recognises a building which is kind to the environment.  It must be aware of its carbon footprint, be in-balance with nature or recycle and practice green energy measures to name a few.  It is important that all measures are demonstrable so that these buildings can stand as examples of the way of the future.

·         40% Contribution of eco-friendly factors to the overall look of the building


 o        Best Recreational Facility

 This category recognises a recreational facility that has provided to the community a new space where they can go to take time our or enjoy activities in a new or improved setting.  This facility can go across the board from children to older adults.  It should provide an environment that has improved the social activities of those in the surrounding areas.

This category recognises the redevelopment or enhancement of a green area.  It may incorporate scenic views, playground facilities, enhanced landscapes, walkways, or other recreational facilities which may add to the aesthetic, cultural, historical or social value of the park and the surrounding communities.

This category recognises a commercial building which has been incorporated into it’s surroundings. It is aesthetically pleasing and complements the surrounding area. The category also includes facilities provided, sustainability and unique design features incorporated into the building.

 o        Best Environmentally Friendly Initiative

 This category recognises an initiative which has resulted in an environmental improvement, awareness and positive promotion within the community. It should make people aware of environmental procedures which will enhance community life for the better if they have been implemented correctly.
